ive just purchased a 1:35th Scale italeri PT boat kit and have made the decision, Im going to convert to radio control, power all 3 props and rudders to keep it looking "scale" even when on display out of the water.

i have done some research online and a few of these kits have been converted, abeit not 2 are alike as far as power units are concerned, so im going to dig a little deeper before making firm order for the power motors, not wanting to need to heavy a battery pack, or make the thing underpowered it cruises like a canal barge.

if anyone does has any info on any suitable items, please feel free to let me know.

im considering putting the build online on the boat build blog, thats if anyone would be interested that is?

Best wishes.

many thanks for your reply and "good memory". I have checked out the magazine website, the magazine issue in question is available to view, for a price, er you have to suscribe to the magazine to view the back issues! [ good catch me thinks>, but have done so simply for the reference material.
let me know if there is any particular item you would like copy of and i'll see what i can do for you in return.

Best wishes.

I have already sourced a set of deck figures off ebay, correct ones too, and at a good price too.
Boat arrived today, WOW, fairly big box ! Just have to check measurements inside the hull now to order the prop shafts and propellors, am considering 3 replacement rudders too, dont think the kit ones will keep the pace or give enough order on the water to make correct turn rates.

Best wishes.

I now have a majority of the upper hull completed, but still in sub sections, as I dont know yet if I need to keep a section removable to install/replace the battery packs, so have refrained from glueing all the upper sections to the deck so far. I have also managed to purchase a set of etched parts from the "Eduard" range, to enable some further super detailling over and above the brass etched components supplied with the kit.

I have had the drive motors arrive [graupner 400's - x3>, esc already in stock, just waiting for delivery of props, prop shafts and rudders to make a bigger attack inside the hull.

Best wishes.

You don't have to subscribe to MB in order to purchase back-issues, they are available individually

the back issue in question was out of stock , so only now available "online", but to view online, you have to suscribe to the magazine, but of a "catch 22" situation here, but finally got the info I needed to, er "help" with my own build.

There has been a few items not shown or discussed in the original "model boats build" which I have come across, like if you use all the kit for the prop shafts model boats magazine suggest, the propellors hang way too low below the hull to look natural, which alos means a high angle for the motors inside the hull.
I have taken some time to carefully file the prop apertures in the hull to all almost an identical run to the original "scale" plastic items, using these as my reference to being nearer to scale than the magazine printout. i then needed to find some method of supporting the propellor shafts at their extreme ends close tot he rudders. SO after ordering some alloy mounts from NM marine supplies, plus sourcing some nice 2mm diameter brass bushes, I am now having a go at aligning the props and shafts & rudders to ensure straight running and a better level mount for the motors and couplings. Plus it means I dont have to hang the motors too high up in the hull, keeping all the weight down low, where it should be.

Once I'm hapy with alignment, I'll get the wiffy stabilit express out and bond the Brass tubes in nice and snugly.
